Meet us in our sequence “EMBOSTORIES”, featuring one of our employees, providing a little insight into our company.
Our first Embostory in 2020 is presenting our Control Expert Raffael Amacher.
Q: How long have you been working at Embotech?
A: Since January 2019. It’s my first year anniversary!
Q: What did you do before working at Embotech?
A: After getting my PhD from ETH Zürich, I was working in a digital health company as a data scientist.
Q: 3 words you would use to describe Embotech?
A: Visionary, determined, open-minded.
Q: How is Embotech helping your career development?
A: Working at Embotech allows me to deploy my knowledge in yet another industry and I can contribute to building up a high-tech company in its growth phase. Furthermore, I am exposed to extremely knowledgeable and outcome-driven people from whom I can learn a lot!
Q: What is your current position and what does it mean?
A: I am a control expert in our industrial automation business unit: I am working on projects for our customers in the industrial sector and develop software solutions utilizing our core technology FORCES PRO based on their requirements.
Q: Could you give us a quick description of what your typical workday looks like?
A: On a typical workday, I would first prioritize the work tasks for the day, making sure I am aligned with my colleagues, updating open issues and distributing development tasks. The main part of the day mostly consists of focused engineering work, with one or two meetings in between. I spend a lot of time developing and testing source code in several programming languages and making sure that our automated workflows run smoothly.
Q: What do you like the most about your job?
A: Given my engineering education, my specialization on feedback control technology and my personal interests, my current position is the perfect fit for me, let alone the friendly atmosphere at Embotech that impressed me from day one. Other than that, I seem to be naturally drawn to challenging projects where it is possible to build new things – which is definitely the case at Embotech.
Q: What is most challenging part of your job?
A: As an emerging company, we are often trying to hit a moving target – getting the right focus for the moment while re-adjusting the big picture can be challenging at times.
Q: If you could have any other job just for the fun of one day, what would it be?
A: I would choose to work as a personality coach or something like that. I’m always excited about stories where people help others to get to know themselves better and they have these ‘aha’ moments about themselves – seeing what that would be like professionally would sure be fun to experience!

Something your colleagues at Embotech don’t know about you yet?
A: Some may not know that I have a family with two wonderful kids at home – looking after them is the reason I don’t show up in the office one day per week. Enabling such work models is another reason why I chose Embotech as my employer!
