Meet us in our sequence “EMBOSTORIES”, featuring one of our employees, providing a little insight into our company. Our October Embostory is presenting @MarkusHug

Q: How long have you been working at Embotech?
A: Since November 2017.

Q: What did you do before working at Embotech?
A: I spent the biggest part of my professional career working as a controls engineer in Formula 1. My main field was in development, but I also spent 3 years in the race team.

Q: 3 words you would use to describe Embotech?
A: Young, motivated, talented

Q: How is Embotech helping your career development?
A: I have the opportunity to work for a company developing cutting-edge technology in a field that is about to disrupt the mobility sector. On top of that, our team includes so many talented engineers so there is a lot to learn from everybody.

Q: What is your current position and what does it mean?
A: I am «Head of Functionality and Testing». This means I’m responsible to identify key functionalities for our motion planning technology together with our customers and the management. We ensure the implementation of these functionalities and then when successfully tested, possibly on real vehicles.

Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That’s an easy one… I simply enjoy going to work every day. In the end, that’s the best thing that can happen. The reasons and conditions to end up in this lucky situation are harder to grasp and phrase. Probably it’s a mix of interesting activities, environment and challenge. I have always been fascinated with vehicles and motorsport. Combining this with driving, automation and controls is awesome, interesting and challenging at the same time. My involvement in many different projects from the idea to the final implementation, together with a highly skilled and motivated team, simply provides an inspiring environment.

Q: What is the most challenging part of your job?
A: Setting the priorities such that in the limited amount of time you get the maximum out of it.

Q: What has been your favorite project since working at Embotech and why?
A: Unfortunately, this is not public yet. But in general, I like the projects that go from the concept to the final implementation on a vehicle. It’s always rewarding to see when good ideas finally get to work in real life.

Q: What has been your most embarrassing moment at work?
A: When someone will discover the story of my last answer here.

Q: If you had the chance to do another job for the fun of one day, what would it be?
A: This is a hard question! There are so many interesting jobs. However, since I’m a big fan of Mountain Biking, for one day I’d like to have the skills of a professional Freeride Mountain Biker and do a superman seat grab on a 30m jump.

Q: Let’s then jump to the last question: Something your colleagues at Embotech certainly don’t know about you yet?
A: To avoid an embarrassing moment, I won’t answer this 😉
